Domestic Goddess

5 Feb

I may not always be Suzy Homemaker, but I kind of know my way around a kitchen.  And I love kitchen gadgets and tools, so I have about a gazillion of them.  Half of them are at my mom’s, waiting for us to have a “real” house with a kitchen bigger than a closet.  As I was doing the dishes (my least favorite task), I thought about a few of my recent finds that have turned into favorites:

Caphalon Grill Pan with Press— This thing makes anything taste better, plus J doesn’t have to freeze his butt off on the deck with the grill.  We make tons of stuff on it, from chicken and steak tips, to quesadillas and grilled cheese.  The grill marks come out perfect, and its easy to clean.  I’m glad I went with this rather than the cast iron one, because that’s a PITA to clean.

Dawn Power Foam dish soap — one squirt of this stuff washed at least 5 dishes.  Its like a miracle foam!

Scotch Brite Clean Rinse Scrubber — Eggs & cheese don’t even stick to this sponge!  Its a bit pricey, but well worth it.

Kitchen Aid Santoko— Even though I have a block full of Henckels, this is my go-to knife.  Its lightweight, has a nice rubber handle, and cuts almost everything like buttah.

And, of course, I love my Foodsaver, but Janey handled that review way more eloquently than I ever could.

Back to the dishes!

I love kitchen stuff too. This sponge sounds great and it will fit in our maxed out space.

I’m just the opposite. I hate too many gadgets. I prefer more all-purpose tools. For instance instead of a blender AND a food processor, I’ll go with just the blender as it can do double duty — and makes fab alcoholic drinks. However, my all-time favorite kitchen “gadget” is the Williams Sonoma smokeless indoor grill. It cost about $100 – but for someone who’s committed to condo living its perfect. I don’t even miss the outdoor grill!

I love kitchen gadgets also. My current favorite is my Cuisinart immersion blender. I make 10x more soup now than I ever did before I got the immersion blender.

Add me to the lover of gadgets. I have that same santuko, I’m going to buy that scrubber.

Fab, you’re no fun! Your place is too Pottery Barn for all my crap anyways!

Jane, I have the Cuisinart Immersion blender too! What I lack is a hand mixer, so I had to use the immersion blender for all of my Christmas cookie needs.

I need to get married more often to get more good kitchen stuff!
